The Ministry of Information thru Director for Residency Maj. Gen. Talal Ibrahim Maarafi, said that starting January 1, 2016, residency visas given to expatriates will be linked to their passports’ validity.

Article 12 of the Residency Law states that the Iqama is only valid if the passport is not expired. Expatriates upon renewal of their passports must register with the Immigration Department now known as Residency Affairs Department to avoid the fine of KD 2 per day.

The ongoing 60 days grace period is enough for expatriates with residency violation to legalize their status and renew their passports and visas because starting January 1, 2016 all expatriates will be given residency visas only according to the validity of their passports.
