The Successful 118th Philippine Independence Day Celebration at Qadsiya

Indeed, there is unity in diversity; much work and progress is achieved when we work together as one. This is how the 118th Philippine Independence Day Celebration at Al Qadsiya Stadium in Hawally, Kuwait can be described.Coalition of Filipino Community (FilCom) Organizations in Kuwait in cooperation with Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) staged the most celebrated Filipino holiday overseas, the 118th Philippine Independence Day with much coordination, much effort and much essence.

It commenced at 8 o’clock in the morning with the Parada ng Kalayaan with the participation of Philippine Embassy officials, FilCom organizations and sponsors. Shortly past 11 AM, the program started with the Christian Prayer by Pastor Lhito Pacete of GCI Church and the Muslim Prayer by SINAR. Kuwait National Anthem was sang by Sound System.

Re-enactment of our independence from Spain and Lupang Hinirang were rendered by TBIK / FAMA and PCK Choir / Cats Claw, respectively. Mr Oliver Tupaz Diong shared his Welcome Remarks after the Parade of Colors.

During this part, intermission numbers from Cats Claw and Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) was well applauded by the audience. Labor Attache, Atty. Cesar Chavez Jr. shared his inspiring message to the community and guests while Assistant Labor Attache, Ms. Lily Pearl Guerrero gave the introduction of the Guest Speaker, His Excellency Ambassador Renato Pedro O. Villa.

The song “Bayan Ko” was a heartfelt rendition by everyone to affirm their roots as Filipinos, wherever they may be. Followed by ‘Tanghalian ng Bayan’, a sumptuous sharing of food that enhanced the oneness in spirit of the FilCom.

Ms. Marisol Untal and Ms. Elsa Tiqui, both from IWOK shared their talents much to the audience’s delight, in between was the Filinvest raffle draw.

Biritan Kids and Lakambini 2016 were among the highlights of the successful event.
