Lailatul Qadr or the ‘Night of Power’ is the crowning glory of the holy month of Ramadan. The Holy Quran describes this Night:
“We have indeed revealed this (message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the Angels and the Spirit (Jibraeel) by Allah’s permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of Morn!” (Surah 97)
It can occur on any one of the last ten odd numbered nights of Ramadan, that is 21, 23, 25, 27 or 29. It is usually celebrated on the 27th night of the holy month. If one prays on all of the last odd numbered nights then there is a chance that he might have prayed on this most powerful night. The reward for him will be equivalent to that of over 83 years and 4 months of worship or a thousand months. A true believer will search for the night of Qadr at late night and in the early hours until he or she attains it, regardless of the hardship.
Lailatul Qadr is a night of great importance and enormous blessings for the believers. Muslims worldwide renew their vows on these days and make a pledge to try their very best to achieve excellence of character.
