Philippines wins Third Miss Universe Crown this 2015
December 20, 2015 – From this United States city that is always the venue for countless major boxing events, Las Vegas was again in the spotlight for staging the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant in a night of glitz, glamour and unfortunately, controversy.
Mr. Steve Harvey, the pageant’s host mistakenly proclaimed Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo as the pageant’s winner and after a few minutes, bravely yet in all humility admitted that he has made an honest mistake in announcing the true winner of Miss Universe 2015. Thus, an innocently stunned Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, claims her title.
It is a given fact and truth that in any live television show, anything can happen, either good or bad. It is also true that nobody is perfect and we are bound to commit mistakes, honest mistakes, just like what happened to Mr. Steve Harvey. However, we salute Mr. Harvey for facing the horrible situation he has caused in front of everybody on the planet, so to speak. He even showed the card bearing the names of who is Second, First Runners up and the new Miss Universe.
We at Kabayan in Kuwait, try to understand the shock and possible hate from the Colombians and maybe, the Latin American population over this unfortunate incident, because Colombia is a regional sister country, whereas the Philippines is in Asia.
But we appeal to everyone to be calm; Filipinos like us can rejoice for as long as we want but we can also wish Miss Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo all the blessings that may come her way after yesterday’s pageant.
The Philippines’ first Miss Universe winner was Gloria Diaz in 1969 and second, Margarita Moran in 1973. Runners – up are as follows;
1963 – Third Runner-up Lalaine Bennett / 1975 – Fourth Runner-up Rose Marie Brosas / 1980 – Third Runner-up Chat Silayan / 1984 – Third Runner-up Desiree Verdadero / 1994 – Top 6 Finalist Charlene Gonzales / 1999 – First Runner-up Miriam Quiambao / 2010 – Fourth Runner-up Venuz Raj / 2011 – Third Runner-up Shamcey Supsup / 2012 – First Runner-up Janine Tugonon and 2013 – Third Runner-up Ariella Arida.
