Kuwait’s National Assembly has approved the new law that will regulate the status of household service workers here in Kuwait.

On June 24, Kuwait’s National Assembly has approved the new law that secures the status and protection of Household Service Workers (HSWs), particularly Asian domestic helpers.

Working hours of 12, once a week day off and 30 days annual leave. Employers are also obligated to open bank accounts for their HSW and transfer their salary to the account to reduce and resolve the problem of delayed or non salary payments. In excess of 12 hours work is considered over time and must be paid by the employer.

There are more than 600,000 HSW in Kuwait, most of which are from Asian countries. The law takes effect immediately after official publication.

Why not all employers know about this law and do they have punishment or penalty if they don’t follow the rules.?
