Kuwait’s AVRP sends home 97 undocumented OFWs
The Assisted Voluntary Repatriation Program (AVRP) is a mutual agreement honored by the Kuwait government and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait with regards to Filipinos staying illegally in the host country due to various reasons.
A few nights ago, a total of 97 undocumented Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Kuwait were repatriated on Sunday night to the Philippines on board Gulf Air. The said OFWs did not pass through deportation center but were transported from the Philippine Embassy, directly to Kuwait International Airport. They were accompanied and assisted by Kuwait Immigration officials and Assistance to Nationals Unit (ATNU) at the check – in counter.
Most of the repatriated OFWs are Household Service Workers (HSW) who run away from their employers after experiencing different forms of physical, verbal, sexual, psychological abuse and maltreatment like overwork, insufficient food, unpaid salaries among other unfortunate circumstances.
The AVRP assures OFWs the repatriation with no detention process, hence, the Philippine Embassy encourages all undocumented OFWs in Kuwait to take advantage of this and go home to the Philippines. The embassy shelter is located at Block 2, Street 217, Villa 42, Hateen Area. Hotline numbers +96598005115/+96569902264 for all your questions.
