Twenty five year old weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz proves once more that the Filipina is world class as she bags the Silver Medal at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics currently the biggest international sports event in the world.
Diaz, also a member of the Philippine Air Force is competing on her third Olympics, previously at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics. Although when interviewed earlier, she said that Rio 2016 will be her last Olympics and that she was hoping to win a bronze medal for the country.
Diaz’s medal win brings the total of Philippines Silver Medal tally to 3, first by boxer Anthony Villanueva in 1964 and another boxer, Onyok Velasco in 1996.
According to Diaz, she trained very hard for this year’s Rio Olympics and with Faith, determination and perseverance, she won triumphantly for the Philippines. She will return home on August 11th and will be millions of pesos richer from the bonus that the government will give her and other rewards from the private sector.
