For Returning OFWs, Knowing the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track of Senior High School is a Big Help.

OFW parents whose children are caught up in the Senior High School education have important questions about the future of their children. The additional two years before college are still costly even with the vouchers given to students from public high schools who are Grade 10 Completers.

The recent influx of repatriated OFWs from Kuwait would surely have some parents who do not wish to work abroad anymore. They would chose to stay near their children.

If you are not sure that you can still be able to send your child to college after he / she graduates from Grade 12 Senior High School, we suggest that you encourage your child to choose the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track.

Here are the practical reasons why;

1. Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track is more on skills training that will help you be competitive and certified in different career opportunities. You will gain Certificates of Competency (COC) and National Certifications (NCs) that may give you the opportunity to work overseas.

2. TVL has four (4) strands to choose from: Home Economics, Industrial Arts, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Agri-Fishery Arts.

 

What is Home Economics strand?

Home Economics track has many different specializations that can lead to livelihood and small business at home. It can also give you the chance to work overseas. Classes in Home Economics are based on TESDA standards like barbering, bartending, beauty care, bread and pastry, care giving, cookery, dressmaking, food and beverage, handicrafts, housekeeping and tourism.

In case a Senior High School graduate of TVL Track can go to college, he / she is well-prepared for college degrees like on Business Education, Culinary Arts, Food Technology, Hospitality, Interior Designing, Nutrition and Tourism Management.

 

What is Industrial Arts strand?

Industrial Arts strand teaches skills in automotive servicing, carpentry, driving,    electronics repair, electrical installation, plumbing, tile setting and welding.

Students will be qualified to take courses in college like Applied Technology, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

 

What is Information and Communications Technology (ICT) strand?

For students who like anything about computers and technology, this is the strand for you. You will be taught in the areas of animation, java programming, medical transcription, technical drafting and telecom installation.

You can work as call center agent, data encoder, graphic designer, IT sales clerk, junior programmer, online sales agent, radio technician and web designer.

If you can go to college, you can take up Information Technology, Electrical Computer Engineering, Network and Software Engineering.

What is Agri-Fishery Arts strand?

This will teach skills on agriculture, food processing, animal production, aqua culture and forestry. You can be employed in fishponds, farmlands, government offices involving the specialization and the like.

With the above practical reasons, taking up the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track for Senior High School is the best way for those who want to earn immediately after graduation.
