Fines for smoking in public places
Last week, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Hammad al-Sabah and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Sulaiman Al-Fahad decided on some rules concerning public security and safety here in Kuwait.
Among the measures to be implemented are to apprehend people smoking in public places by the ordinary police and the Environmental Police will be the ones to serve the on-site citations. Those who will be caught doing violations like cutting down of trees and other environment threatening acts will be dealt with accordingly.
Ministry reliable sources that fines for public smokers will be KD 50 for the first offense and KD 100 for repeat offenders. Their names too will be listed in the Ministry database and unless they finish paying the fines, will have limited service access.
There are also plans to prepare all security forces in various fields about the new law. Once implemented, restaurants will also be banned to provide ashtrays to their clients in order to implement non smoking in public places.
