Embassy Stops Attempt at Blackmail by Dubious Media
(From Consul General Atty. Raul H. Dado social media page)
PUBLIC ADVISORY: EMBASSY STOPS ATTEMPT AT BLACKMAIL BY DUBIOUS MEDIA, 3 July.
“The Embassy calls on our Kabayans to follow the practice in the past of seeking Embassy guidance on legal matters, and not to be victimized by rumors.”
The Embassy was able to stop an attempt by a person saying that he was a member of the media, from blackmailing the embassy, for reasons which were unclear.
The person was reported by some OFWs as giving his numbers to them and saying that if they had any complaints against the Embassy, they should call him so he could air the news on Philippine TV.
The Embassy spoke to these OFWs and reiterated Embassy policy and practice that all problems and cases are always looked into.
The motives of the person were unclear, but reports to the proper authorities will be made. Legal action is at all times ready.
The Embassy thus calls on our Kabayans to follow the practice in the past of seeking Embassy guidance on legal matters, and not to be victimized by rumors.
To date, Embassy and community cooperation is practiced through the Embassy Legal Desk and the Embassy Tripartite Action Center for Rescues and Repatriation.
Through these mechanisms, politics and blackmail are avoided, and OFWs are genuinely assisted in their needs through legal advice and positive action. – END
