Beware of helping illegal residents
The Kuwait Government moves for another humanitarian act for Syrian nationals who are granted longer residency permits considering the current situation in Syria. However, the ruling about other expatriates helping illegal residents by employing them as house helpers, kitchen helpers among others will be a serious violation.
Fine is KD 1,000 for the first offense and if repeated, the amount will be higher and may result to legal problems. Other expats help illegals because they are in unfortunate circumstances and taking them in as house helpers or kitchen helpers may cost lower salary than legally recruited employees. Even if the illegal residents are treated fairly by their employers, still they cannot leave the house or establishment and only request for money to send their family in their home country using the employer’s Civil ID.
Kuwait Government also reiterated that starting January 2016, the issuance of residency permits for expatriates should not exceed the validity of their passport and authorities are also looking into the possibility of using smart card instead of the sticker bearing the residency permit.
